The AMR intelligent meter reading system consists of a three-level network, from bottom to top are the reading conversion layer (meter unit), the acquisition/relay layer, the data concentration layer and the management layer (master control machine).

The upper communication is the communication between the concentrator and the main station computer, the middle communication is the communication between the concentrator and its subordinate collector/repeater, and the lower communication is the communication between the collector/repeater and its subordinate direct reading meter. . These three layers of communication are independent of each other in physical structure, and have different requirements for communication methods, transmission media, and transmission rates.
